JUICEHEAD'S "HOW TO SAIL A SINKING SHIP" "SPOTLIGHT"  FEATURE ON MUSIC-NEWS.COM!

"This is real punk, not the overblown Punk-pop of Blink 182 or prog-punk of Green Day. About a hundred numbers (actually 20) with titles like ‘Rotting From The Inside’ or ‘Deadly Nightshade’ or ‘No Regrets’, produced by Ramones collaborator John Cafiero and even loaded with little twists like Cello from Melora Creager (Nirvana & Rasputina) on ‘Black Roses’ or the Punk Pipers on ‘When I Fall From Grace’. The talents on show actually bring to mind The Pogues in their ‘Rum Sodomy & The Lash’ days, not for the music but the integrity and the preparedness to do different things." - ANDY SNIPPER

OSAKA POPSTAR ON THE SOUNDTRACK FOR “PHYSICS OF SURFING” IN 3D

A special ‘surf’s up’ mix of “Where’s the Cap’n?” is featured in “The Physics of Surfing”; PassmoreLab’s new 3D film that submerges viewers into the magnificence of surfing and the power of the ocean's waves.

The musical legacy of surfing is a rich and exciting element of surf culture and Osaka Popstar are pleased to be included on the soundtrack, (produced by Dusty Watson), alongside skate-punk pioneers Agent Orange, Slacktone and more. The John Cafiero penned cut by Osaka Popstar concludes the film, and continues on throughout the duration of the end credit roll.

Physics of Surfing has already had several 3D screenings in the Los Angeles area and is currently on exhibition in museums throughout Europe. In the festival circuit, the film has received an Award of Excellence at the Indie Film Festival and the 3D Excellence Award at the Asheville Children's Film Festival, the largest children’s film festival in the southeast.  Most recently, Physics of Surfing screened at the Waimea Ocean Film Fest in Hawaii.

MISFITS & OSAKA POPSTAR FEATURED IN STICKER ART CULTURE BOOK: STICKERS: FROM PUNK ROCK TO CONTEMPORARY ART

Whether you’re a punk, skater, graffiti artist, musician, clothing brand, political activist, fine artist, or just a fan of a band, stickers have always been the perfect way to express oneself.

“Stickers: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art” is a great new book by DB Burkeman and Monica LoCascio, with introductions by Shepard Fairey & Carlo McCormick. The book was published by Rizzoli, a leader in art and design books.

Among the works spotlighted in the comprehensive collective, the Misfits iconic Fiend Skull is featured, along with a quote from Misfits founding member Jerry Only himself about the logo’s impact on pop culture.

Three different Osaka Popstar sticker designs, art directed by John Cafiero, including the Devil Dog (illustrated by Mari-chan), Osaka Monstar (by Dalek) and Osaka Popcan (by John Pound), are also featured within the 308 page oversized coffee table book.

Stickers features approximately 4,000 stickers from the exploding, vibrant world of street art, DIY culture, music, and branding. Cheap, democratic, easy to "tag," and not always fast to fade, the sticker has been an ever-present medium—from the New York and London underground punk scene to skate culture and political expression. Celebrating the graphics of this street-art medium, Stickers illustrates the timeline of this pastime, from counterculture to politics. The book includes approximately 4,000 sticker graphics organized by categories and themes, with works by such diverse artists as Raymond Pettibon (Black Flag); street artists such as  Shepard Fairey, Banksy and Kaws; and amateur artists who "tag" the streets anonymously. The book illustrates not only the visual and social history of sticker art but also the personal relationship that street artists and pedestrians alike have with stickers. The book even includes eight sheets of stickers.

“Stickers: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art” is out now in stores and online everywhere in Standard Softcover Edition OR, for hardcore collectors, pick up the Deluxe Ltd. Hardcover Edition packaged in an oversized clamshell box. Includes 23 original die-cut stickers, many of which are signed by the artist.

Check out a commercial for the book online featuring music by the Buzzcocks.

The eclectic mix of fans, Hollywood celebrities and rockers in attendance included actress Rose McGowan, actress Rosanna Arquette, actress PJ Soles, actress Virginia Madsen, actors David Arquette and Vincent Gallo, Sex Pistols' Steve Jones, musician Pete Yorn, X’s Billy Zoom, radio personality Joe Escalante of the Vandals, Gilby Clarke of Guns n’ Roses, Stan Lee of The Dickies, Jeff McDonald of Redd Kross, Charlotte Caffey of the GoGos and many more including Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, founding member and sole survivor of the original lineup, drummer and producer Tommy Ramone and youngest member CJ Ramone.

"This is something Johnny definitely planned before he died. He was always 15 steps ahead of everyone.” Stated founding member Tommy Ramone. “It is very gratifying to see Ramones fans gather together for events like this. It gives us the opportunity to keep the Ramones legacy alive and to share special times together.”

The special outdoor event, presented by Linda Ramone in association with the JRA, took place on Sat. Oct. 3rd in Los Angeles, CA at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, home of the 8 ft. bronze, Johnny Ramone memorial statue and gravesite of legendary bassist Dee Dee Ramone.

"This year’s event was spectacular and turned out to be everything we’d hoped for," said John Cafiero, Chief of Staff of the Johnny Ramone Army. "It was just a great night all around. The event was rich and diverse as a whole and so was the crowd. Commandos assembled from all over the world and it was the biggest turnout we’ve ever seen at the annual Tribute. I think Johnny would be proud.”

The event concluded with the 3D World Premiere of George Romero’s original 1968 cult classic "Night of the Living Dead, Now in 3D!” which was superbly introduced by actress and JRA affiliate Rose McGowan.

“We had a huge turnout! What can I say? It was for the love of Johnny Ramone, a great cause and fantastic entertainment,” reflects McGowan. “Johnny would’ve been thrilled that so many people love & respect The Ramones.”

“I think Johnny would have been very proud. He loved horror movies, and would have been thrilled that “Night of the Living Dead in 3D!” had its world premiere at his tribute, in front of so many fans,” said Linda Ramone, wife of the legendary guitarist.

When asked how Johnny would’ve described the night in two words, Linda Ramone replied: “fucking cool….”

John Cafiero presents Jane Hoffman, president of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, with the donation raised for the Picasso Veterinary Fund.
DEVIL DOG ART SHOW RAISES OVER $5,000.00 FOR ANIMAL RESCUE!

"The generous donation we received from John Cafiero and the Osaka Popstar Devil Dog Art Show for the Picasso Veterinary Fund truly has made the ultimate difference for the dogs and cats whose lives were saved as a result of the donation. We, and the animals, are grateful for such important support."

- Steve Gruber, Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals

The Osaka Popstar Devil Dog Art Show was curated by John Cafiero and debuted at The Showroom Gallery in New York City, Halloween night ’08. Many pieces sold immediately on opening night and sales continued steadily into 2009.

The works contributed to the show ranged from an eclectic and diverse mix of visual artists including Obey Giant’s Shepard Fairey, Popaganda’s Ron English, Japan’s Rockin’ Jelly Bean, JTHM & Invader Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez and countless other incredibly talented artists from all over the world too numerous to list here in their entirely (nearly 100 total!). Each created a custom one of a kind toy work of art utilizing their skills, imagination and a solid white Devil Dog vinyl figure. Celebrity participants included actress Rose McGowan & Director Robert Rodriguez (contributing an autographed Cherry Darling/Grindhouse Devil Dog by Gentle Giant Studios) and Actor/Comedian Seth Rogen. Seth, who happens to be a vinyl toy fan and DIY enthusiast, painted his piece personally contributing to the worthy cause and the show itself, which opened to rave reviews from the art and toy community. Sales of the show raised over $5,000.00 for the Picasso Veterinary Fund administered by the Mayor’s Alliance for New York City’s Animals.

“It was the success of a rescued stray that inspired me to create the Devil Dog initially, so I thought it would be great if the character gave something back somehow. The Picasso Veterinary Fund saves the lives of rescued animals that would have been destroyed simply because there’s no one to cover the costs or take care of them. Not only do the Picasso and the Alliance provide the medical attention needed, they even place the rescues in homes when they’re well enough. The promise of all of that tagged with name Picasso felt like it was destined for the Devil Dog Art show.”

– John Cafiero, Osaka Popstar

All pieces from the show were professionally shot by a variety of photographers for inclusion in a forthcoming book documenting the show. Look for more news on that to be posted here in the not too distant future. Until then, visit the blog to view photos taken at the event. Click the Devil Dog Art Show banner below for a look at the pieces that were available too.

OSAKA CHARTS @ #12 IN TOP 20 ALT ROCK/POWER POP BANDS

NYC’s The Deli Magazine recently ran a piece on Osaka Popstar and currently lists the band @ #12 in the their top 20 Alt Rock/Power Pop bands.

Here’s a blurb from the article:

“Osaka Popstar is led by filmmaker by day and rock star by night, John Cafiero. Cafiero injects not only his high pitched Dickies-esque vocals but a healthy love of anime to the band's pulsating punk rock. So don’t be surprised if you find a pit forming to songs about beloved Japanese character “Astro Boy” or a bunch of crazied "Shaolin Monkeys".

OSAKA MAKES INSITE MAGAZINE’S TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2008 & MORE

White Collar Punk Rocker as well as INsite Magazine Boston and INsite Atlanta listed Osaka Popstar’s latest release “Rock’Em O-Sock’Em Live!” in the Top 10 albums of 2008 along with The Clash, Vampire Weekend and Flogging Molly.

Here’s a quote:  “It was hard to believe that this punk rock super group, comprised of refuges from The Misfits, The Voidoids and The Ramones, could top their 2006 debut Osaka Popstar and the American legends of Punk, but adding the immediacy of a live audience managed to do just that. A hybrid of originals and covers recorded at a small Jersey club show finds the band in their element. Can’t wait to see how they are going to top this one.” - John B. Moore

Much of the Ramones extended family were on hand celebrating the landmark site along with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Debbie Harry and Chris Stein (of Blondie) who held a very special, intimate performance at the private event. The entertainment community was represented in full force with an eclectic mix of musicians, actors and industry execs all under the same roof, as fans, paying homage to the preservation of rock and roll history.

Net proceeds from the sale of these one of a kind pieces will be donated to the Picasso Veterinary Fund, administered by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.

About the Picasso Veterinary Fund:

Traditionally, animals with extreme medical needs who are taken in by animal control shelters are euthanized because the funds needed to pay for extensive surgeries and other expensive treatment just haven't been available. But many of these animals would make wonderful, loving pets if only they had access to the medical treatment they need. The Picasso Veterinary Fund was created to give these animals the second chances they deserve. By paying for medical treatment that otherwise would not be available to them, the Fund is saving lives that in the past would have been lost. Administered by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, the Picasso Veterinary Fund pays for lifesaving medical treatment for sick and injured animals that would have otherwise been destroyed. These animals get the veterinary care they need to get back on their feet, and put up for adoption when they are healthy enough to be placed in a good home.

LUCID DREAMS 3D & PASSMORELAB PRESENT OSAKA POPSTAR IN 3D!

San Diego, CA (eMedia Wire) , High-kicking cheerleaders. Fire-breathing devil dogs. Rain-cloud-breathing counter-devil-dogs. Punk-Rock Superheroes. Get ready, it's Osaka Popstar in 3D! And giving OP the ultra-dimensional force to fight evil, it's digital 3D technology developers PassmoreLab, who have joined forces with media content company Lucid Dreams 3D to produce the new stereographic video for "Wicked World," the lead single from the band's debut LP Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk.

Released originally in 2006 as a conventional 2D video, "Wicked World," created by the renowned Japanese cult animator Mari-chan, was an instant hit with its classic anime imagery propelled by the driving, hook-laden music of Osaka Popstar. The band is the inspired collaboration of its creator/frontman John Cafiero, along with punk legends Marky Ramone (the Ramones), Jerry Only (Misfits), Dez Cadena (Black Flag), and Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & The Voidoids). Cafiero is a true creative visionary and longtime collaborator of the Misfits, having produced, among other hits, their 2003 Project 1950 CD - the highest-charting release in the band's long and storied career. Cafiero also produced and directed the acclaimed 2004 DVD, RAMONES RAW. Additionally, he has extended his considerable talents into the areas of film animation, toy development, and merchandise licensing through the Hard Rock Cafe franchise.

"I became acquainted with John Cafiero of Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk in a previous life as in-house counsel for Hard Rock International," said Lucid Dreams 3D president, James Humann. "I've loved Osaka Popstar since the very first time I heard their first CD and, as someone who loves punk music, it's tremendously cool to be associated with these heroes of American rock 'n' roll."

"We've done some conversion of cartoon content before," continued Humann, "so we are confident that the 'Wicked World' video is going to look fantastic in 3D. In addition, we're looking forward to continuing our relationship with Osaka Popstar beyond this initial project. Lucid Dreams 3D is also currently in negotiations with several other musical artists to establish the company as a leader in providing 3D musical content."

"In my initial dealings with James Humann at Hard Rock International, it quickly became obvious that he's a schooled music fan with discerning tastes," said OP frontman John Cafiero. "It was really flattering that he gravitated as much as he did to Osaka Popstar, and I was thrilled when he and Lucid Dreams 3D approached me about converting the animated music video, 'Wicked World,' into this rich new format. James and the entire Lucid Dreams team are both forward-thinking and passionate about their projects. Combine that with an exciting new hi-def technology and an army of fire-breathing devil dogs reaping havoc in 3D, and how can you not be on the verge of something white hot!"

The enthusiasm for the project is shared by PassmoreLab founder and president, Greg Passmore, who observed, "'Wicked World' is fresh and fun and bright and lively, and is well suited for conversion into 3D. The cell-animated conversion leaves tremendous room for interpretation of depth to our stereographers. For example," noted Passmore, "there's a section of fire-breathing dogs that burn down an entire city, and in this sequence we're taking considerable liberties at determining how we can apply depth to further enhance the imagery and make it appear larger than life. There are so many instances where the symbolic imagery lends itself well to dimensionalization. We think the 3D conversion will be a hit not only with anime fans, but with punk and pop-culture enthusiasts in general."

Look for news on the forthcoming WORLD PREMIERE of Osaka Popstar’s Wicked World in 3D coming soon.

SOUNDGARDEN’S KIM THAYIL SPINS OSAKA POPSTAR
REPORTED BY SUB POP’S GRUNGE SUMMIT

In the latest installment of Sub Pop’s Grunge Summit 2008, guitar icon Kim Thayil (Soundgarden, Probot), who’s highly influential guitar work pioneered the Seattle Sound and grunge movement, was quoted on the current state of music stating: “...bad time for record labels, great time to listen to music! Greater number and variety of artists, genres, listening formats, and avenues of distribution”.

When asked what albums he’s been listening to lately, Kim cited “OSAKA POPSTAR”.

Kim Thayil ranked #100 in Rolling Stone’s list of "100 greatest guitarists of all time” along with other groundbreaking guitarists including Johnny Ramone who was listed at #16. Visit the Sub Pop website to read the Grunge Summit by Sasha Sarene in its entirety.

TOMMY RAMONE COMMENTS ON THE LIVE DISC FROM OSAKA POPSTAR

Ramones founding member, producer and original drummer, Tommy Ramone recently had some kind words to say about the live CD from Osaka Popstar “Rock’Em O-Sock’Em Live!

“This is a great sounding live show, which includes excellent performances
of several classic Ramones songs."
- Tommy Ramone

A high compliment indeed coming from the only surviving member of the original Ramones lineup and co-author of the Ramones anthem “Blitzkrieg Bop”!

For those who might not be aware, Tommy co-authored (along with Johnny, Joey & Dee Dee) many Ramones’ classics, some of which are included on OP’s live CD. Both “Blitzkrieg Bop” and “Beat on the Brat” originally appeared on the 1976 self-titled debut “Ramones” on Warner Bros. imprint, Sire Records. Tommy Ramone co-produced that groundbreaking album and went on to produce many more of the now legendary Ramones albums including, “Leave Home”, “Rocket to Russia” and “Road to Ruin”.

Tommy had this to say on the Ramones songwriting process: “We were really good at collaborating. It was actually a fun process. Since we were all very different, we all came up with very different ideas. I think the songs we collaborated on are some of the best songs we have.” When questioned about the infamous chant ‘Hey Ho, Lets Go!” Tommy stated: 'Saturday Night' (by the Bay City Rollers) was a big hit at the time and I thought it would be a great idea to have a chant. It worked for them...laughs)”.

Most recently, Tommy has taken his musical pursuits in a totally different direction exploring his interests in Blue Grass Music with a new project called "Uncle Monk."

Osaka Popstar’s LIVE CD “Rock’Em O-Sock’Em Live!” is in stores now.

OSAKA POPSTAR MEETS
THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS!

The infamous “Garbage Pail Kids” are back and the latest set, all-new series 7 (IN STORES NOW), features Osaka Popstar! Included in the base set of 110 stickers/cards (which are each available in “a” & “b” versions) you’ll find #38a “Drum Kit” aka #38b “Tom Tom”. The sticker/card design spotlights a decapitated, two-headed GPK drummer ferociously pounding on a snare drum. Stuck on the end of each drumstick are his bruised and battered decapitated heads! Behind him is an Osaka Popstar logo stage backdrop complete with fire breathing devil dog bookends and the entire lineup of the debut album “Osaka Popstar & the American Legends of Punk” performing live on stage, just as they appeared on their UK tour and nationwide throughout North America on the most recent Fiend Fest tour. John Cafiero (vocals), Jerry Only on bass, Dez Cadena & Ivan Julian on guitars and Marky Ramone on drums are all rendered behind the freaky GPK drummer at center stage.

Click Here for a larger view of the A & B version of the OP-GPK sticker.

Osaka Popstar creator/frontman John Cafiero comments: “It’s really surreal and a lot of fun to see Osaka Popstar included in this set. The all-new GPK series is fantastic and they’ve only continued to get cooler ever since it first came back on the scene a few years ago. By all-new series-4, (one of my favorites), I was totally hooked. The people behind them really enjoy what they’re doing and it shows in the work. More often than not, the quality of art even steps up a notch surpassing the richness old school GPK fans remember while maintaining the same outrageous sensibilities that made GPK so great to begin with. Each card is a bizarre work of art. They’re very detailed paintings. I collect GPK so for me; being in this set is like the lowbrow art equivalent of a Grammy! The pop culture references in GPKs are always a lot of fun to spot and to become one of them is a real honor. I love it.”

Jerry Only (Misfits) who is featured on Bass in the card comments: "Back as a kid I used to collect trading cards like Mars Attacks and Wacky Packages. I remember the Garbage Pail Kids stickers from the 80’s. They were always very extreme. From the looks of it, they still are and I'm in one! How cool is that?”

Drummer Marky Ramone (of the world Famous Ramones) states: "It’s great to be in cartoon form. This is just as high of an honor as it was being portrayed with the Ramones in the Simpsons. The artwork is wild. I really like it. Two heads are better than one!”

Garbage Pail Kids All-new series 7 is in stores now. Look for them in comic book and collectible shops, grocery stores and major chains like Rite Aid, Target, Walmart and Toys R Us. You can also buy them by the pack or by the box at the Topps Online Store. All of the stickers in the set are randomly inserted into “mega-packs” of 10 but you’ll easily complete a full base set, (including both the “a” & “b” version of sticker #38 featuring Osaka Popstar) if you buy a box of 24 packs or trade with your friends! For more info on the series, visit the official Garbage Pail Kids website.

The debut disc (“Osaka Popstar & the American Legends of Punk) included an official Osaka Popstar-Wacky Packages sticker and now the NY punk rooted anime inspired outfit has the honor of being the first and only band immortalized in the Garbage Pail Kids series as well. The circle is now complete. Both pieces were painted by legendary Topps veteran artist John Pound. Collect them all!

Look for the OP-GPK art to tie into the release of an Osaka Popstar LIVE EP coming Spring 2008 from Misfits Records! Osaka Popstar will be returning to the studio later this year for a follow up album. Until that time, fans can look forward to the release of a LIVE EP recorded Halloween Night @ the Starland Ballroom in NJ on the Fiend Fest tour.

Stay tooned, there’s lots more to come…

OSAKA POPSTAR INTERVIEW IN UP MAGAZINE
Click here to read an in-depth Interview with Osaka Popstar creator and frontman John Cafiero as conducted by Bram Van Schaik for UP Magazine in Holland. The issue (#30) includes a 2 page spread on Osaka Popstar centering around the interview. The same issue also includes an excellent CD review that compares the Osaka Popstar album to visiting a theme-park!

Bram Van Schaik of UP magazine had this to say about the full interview with John Cafiero:

"This interview with John appears in edited form in issue #30 of UP Magazine. Sadly, I couldn’t run the full interview of over 5000 words (yes, that’s right) in UP mag, not even when you’re the reincarnation of both Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer and, let’s say, Frank Zappa themselves! I think the full interview is really worth reading. There’s a lot of history-related info in it and it tells how someone grows up in the roaring seventies and starts a musical career. It’s such a great story and I felt sorry when cutting it down to 2 pages. I thought it would be a great idea to put the entire Q&A on the website."

Click here to read the full uncut interview in English courtesy of Bram from UP and be sure to pick up issue #30 for the edited version translated in Dutch!

3 PAGE ARTICLE ON OSAKA POPSTAR IN HUSTLER MAGAZINE!

You read correctly, the folks over at Hustler think we’re hot! So hot in fact that they devoted 3 pages of the upcoming issue to a feature article on Osaka Popstar! The 3-page article also includes an interview with frontman John Cafiero and drummer Marky Ramone.

Here’s a quote from the upcoming issue:
"Osaka Popstar is solid, upbeat and infectious, with more hooks than an all-day fishing trip and an image cool enough to chill your beer."

- Tom Farrell, Entertainment Editor, HUSTLER MAGAZINE

The December issue of Hustler will be available and on newsstands mid September. Please note, Hustler is a monthly adult magazine that includes explicit material as well as current-event satire and social exposés. You must be 18 or over to read Hustler, check your state laws for proper age limit and local restrictions where applicable.

Believe it or not, Osaka Popstar will return in Hustler’s January issue too! As a result of the feature story in Hustler’s forthcoming Dec. issue, John Cafiero was asked to review a bunch of anime DVD’s from Geneon and Marky Ramone will chime in with his thoughts on the new Gojira DVD and a couple of Geneon anime titles as well!

On a related note, Tom Farrell the Entertainment editor at Hustler informs he’s already gone through numerous copies of the Osaka Popstar CD due to the fact that everyone in the office loves the album. Every time he turns around someone’s taken his copy and as a result, as you walk through Hustler headquarters, Osaka Popstar is playing nearly everywhere you go!

Osaka Popstar frontman John Cafiero guests on Irwin Chusid's show on WFMU on May 31st

LISTEN TO THE FULL SHOW ARCHIVED ONLINE IN STREAMING AUDIO – CLICK HERE NOW

"Thirty years of punk rock history layered with Japanese anime frosted with the mainstreaming of outsider music = the headbanging genius of Osaka Popstar. No one else should follow this formula because it can't be done better, or louder, or with more panache."

- Irwin Chusid (WFMU DJ; author, Songs in the Key of Z: The Curious Universe of Outsider Music)

WFMU’s Irwin Chusid presents “genre-surfing tokenism” from 12 - 2 pm…what’s that you ask? Probably one of the coolest, most unusual experiences in radio where there are no boundaries, outsiders are insiders and insiders are…well…confused! On May 31st John mixed it up live in the studio with Irwin from 1 – 2pm EST. In an interesting twist, Irwin’s gave John free reign for the hour to pick a special blend of punk and outsider tunes he’d like to share with WFMU’s listeners. In between that, Irwin and John discussed Osaka Popstar in detail and played cuts off the new album. The show aired live on Wednesday, May 31st on 91.1 FM (NJ and NYC metro area) and 90.1 FM (Hudson Valley region).

You can hear the entire show (exactly as it aired live) online at WFMU.org. Click here for the full playlist and the entire show archived in your choice of streaming MP3 or RealAudio. Check the playlist and note that John begins midway into the show (at the 1pm hour).

John is a longtime WFMU listener and admits to being musically schooled by WFMU's free-form offerings. In addition to being a WFMU Radio personality, Irwin Chusid is a respected Author, Producer, Music Historian and journalist having written for The New York Times, Mojo, New York Press, and many other publications.

The unsuspecting DJ (who’s book “Songs in the Key of Z” includes profiles of outsider artists Daniel Johnston & The Kids of Widney High) received an advance copy the new Osaka Popstar CD a week before the release with no explanation whatsoever.

Irwin informs: “Had no idea why the OP CD was sent to me. I get a lot of crap dropped into the mailbox, and when I first saw the sleeve, assumed it was a mistake. I gave it a listen at home while fixing dinner, and without realizing the first song was Daniel's, found myself mesmerized by the recording. Song after song, it just got better. I was a fan by the time "Man of Constant Sorrow" ended.”

Immediately following his new discovery, Irwin debuted 4 tracks from the Osaka Popstar CD on his radio show: “I rarely play an artist more than once in a program, but sometimes I make exceptions... in exceptional cases.”

Click Here to listen to the archive of Irwin’s May 17th show which includes the original Kids of Widney High version of the song “Insects” back to back with the Osaka Popstar’s cover version plus 3 more OP tracks, Irwin’s comments on the new OP CD he’d just discovered and many rare gems you’d likely never hear anywhere else. You can learn more about Irwin Chusid and his projects via his webpage at WFMU and his Outsider Music website KeyofZ.com.

OSAKA POPSTAR ARE TOPPS!

OSAKA POPSTAR TEAM UP WITH TOPPS TO INCLUDE LIMITED EDITION OSAKA POPSTAR “WACKY PACKAGES” BONUS STICKER BY ARTIST JOHN POUND IN SPECIALLY MARKED CD PACKAGES. MISFITS RECORDS ANNOUNCES OFFER FOR AN EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED-EDITION MISFITS VINYL 45 WITH OSAKA PROOF OF PURCHASE.

Punk super-group OSAKA POPSTAR--fronted by JOHN CAFIERO and featuring the legendary MARKY RAMONE (THE RAMONES), JERRY ONLY (MISFITS), DEZ CADENA (BLACK FLAG) and IVAN JULIAN (RICHARD HELL & THE VOIDOIDS)—have made pop culture history by teaming with the world famous Topps trading card company to add a limited-edition and highly collectible Osaka Popstar “Wacky Packages” bonus sticker available exclusively in specially-marked packages in the first run of CDs.

John Williams from Topps Company, Inc. had this to say about the collaboration:

"Wacky Packages and Osaka Popstar share some of the same basic ingredients--a playful mix of fun, humor and good-natured rebellion. In the 70s, Wacky Packages achieved pop icon status after spawning a feverish collecting craze among kids. Now Wacky Packages are back to tickle the funny-bone of a whole new generation. John Pound has produced yet another Wacky masterpiece for the Osaka Popstar CD."

Artist John Pound--the artistic genius behind countless Wacky Packages and Garbage Pail Kids stickers--designed the sticker that renders OSAKA POPSTAR as the first rock band to be immortalized as a “Wacky Pack,” the art form created during Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Art Spiegelman’s tenure at Topps.

Pound informs that the popular Garbage Pail Kids craze began as a bi-product of the Wacky Packages series:

"GPKs were born through Wacky Packages. Art Spiegelman called me in the 80's to do some Wacky Packages paintings for Topps. I did a few. One was a "Garbage Pail Kids" doll, looking like a bum in a trashcan, inside a doll package. But instead of doing the GPK as a Wacky Package, Topps decided it would work better to do GPKs as a series. So they asked me for some ideas and sketches, and soon I had to do a lot of cute and gross paintings really fast. Who knew it would be so popular?”

Pound went on to comment on the recent collaboration with Osaka Popstar stating: "I'm impressed with all the care and detail put into this CD release!"

Fans can also expect to find an OSAKA POPSTAR proof-of-purchase seal inside the CD package that, when combined with proof-of-purchase from prior Misfits Records releases, can be redeemed for an exclusive, unreleased, limited-edition Misfits vinyl 45. Visit misfitsrecords.com for more details. Click here to view the latest full page ad which includes a sneak peak at the cover art for the exclusive 45.

OSAKA POPSTAR has been garnering a steady grassroots following on Modern Rock, Alternative and Specialty Radio as well as Internet and Satellite Radio. Check out the great write up in radio publication FMQB's Submodern Buzz.
